The talk show host shared the news with her fans on Thursday, January 14, explaining why they named their new puppy Kid.
“I have not talked about this yet, but we have a new puppy. Portia and I got a puppy and his name is Kid so now we have a kid. Yep. I mean, he is absolutely adorable…And I named him Kid because, you know, people…There have been rumors forever. ‘When are you and Portia gonna have a kid?’ So, now I can say we have a Kid. So it can just stop.”
Kid will enjoy the company of the couple’s other dogs Wolf and Augie.
DeGeneres opened up last March in an interview with Today show’s Matt Lauer about her decision not to have children.
Lauer asked her whether she thought she would be a good parent.
“I think I would,” she responded. “But that’s not enough to have kids. I love kids. But that’s such a big commitment.”
“And it seems long-term. It seems like a commitment that you have to stick with. And I just don’t know if I can—it’s too risky. Like, what if I don’t like the kid?” DeGeneres joked.
The talk show host, 57, continued her explanation in a humorous way: “What if it turns out that it’s not as cute as I wanted or as talented? I’m gonna compare it to all these kids that I have on this show that are so smart and so funny. And I’m like, ‘You are nowhere near these kids I had on today. Sit down and look at this kid I just had on! Do you know all those presidents?’”
“I’m getting too old. Listen, they’re cute, those little kids, but no,” the comedienne concluded.
Throughout time, the couple has been the target of baby rumors, and they have addressed the speculation with humor.
